Quintana Roo CD 0.1 Triathlon Frameset

Quintana Roo Cd 0.1 frameset:
Quintana Roo founder and editor of Slowtwitch.com, Dan Empfield, invented the triathlon bike with the first steep seat angle frame, the Quintana Roo Superform. Empfield went on to build the first production aerodynamic triathlon bike, the Quintana Roo Redstone. The legacy of innovation continues at Quintana Roo with the wind tunnel developed Cd 0.1.
The Quintana Roo Cd 0.1 frameset combines unique, advanced aerodynamic design with solid, dependable mechanical features. This is a new technology aero frame with practical, dependable aerodynamic features. It can be flight cased easily; it can be serviced at the race venue without the need for extensive proprietary frame parts. It is a true racer's bike, not just a finicky hybrid designed for performance in the wind tunnel only. The Quintana Roo Cd 0.1 is a real-world aerodynamic race bike.
The new "Shift" ultra low drag frame configuration optimizes front end aerodynamics and lowers drag coefficient by off- setting the down tube of the bike. As a result front wheel aerodynamics are optimized along with frame aerodynamics. This proprietary offset "Shift" down tube works in synergy with an overall clean frame shape: Brakes are removed from the boundary layer; frame transitions are smooth and meld together without abrupt changes. If you run your hand down the side of the Cd 0.1 seat tube you discover an alluring amalgam of subtle, complex shapes that work in concert to optimize aerodynamics, frame stiffness, comfort and component performance.
The frame uses mechanical features real world athletes appreciate: Both the front and rear derailleur hangers are modular (and replaceable) for race day dependability and safe flight case use. The seatpost binder collar is lightweight alloy for firm clamping and modular dependability and servicing. The cable routing uses housing through its entire length, eliminating contamination from foreign matter that may reduce shift quality, keeping out water and making mechanical cable changes easier. There are two sets of water bottle mounts for Ultra-distance events and long training rides. The seatpost head has a wide range of easily adjustable effective seat tube angles, from very steep to moderate. Ride quality of the Cd 0.1 is enhanced by the deep, stiff chain stays that provide excellent stiffness and the wispy seat stays that deliver comfortable ride quality.
The bottom bracket is encased in a massive carbon fiber section that makes the pedals feel sure underfoot, even when climbing out of the saddle- an unusual feature for an aerodynamic frame. The Cd 0.1 frameset includes powerful front and rear Tektro TRP 925 aero brakes, the aerodynamic carbon fiber seatpost with variable geometry seatpost head, the full carbon fiber frame with modular, replaceable rear derailleur hanger and replaceable front derailleur braze-on along with aerodynamic carbon fiber fork with alloy dropouts.
| According to Wikipedia.com the drag coefficient for a bullet is 0.295. The drag coefficient for the new Quintana Roo Cd 0.1 is lower than a bullet at 0.1. The Quintana Roo Cd 0.1 (say, "See Dee Zero point One") gets its name from its shape-shifting low drag coefficient. Hidden in the name is a list of real-world mechanical features that make the Cd 0.1 a racer's bike. | ![]() |
